The work of Milton, creator of Brazilian music classics, including, Crossingalongside Fernando Brant, his most assiduous partner, wharf And nothing will ever be the same againboth with Ronaldo Bastos, and Clube da Esquina nº2with Marcio and Lô Borges, he gets another chapter with the playlist Milton Nascimento: Analogical raritiesedited by journalist and researcher Renato Vieira.
Published by Radio BatutaInstituto Moreira Salles (IMS), the compilation brings together 17 tracks not available on digital platforms, 15 of which have never been released on CD.
In this playlist, for example, four songs recorded by the Holiday Sets, of which Milton was a part, in 1964. They are: train noise (Milton Nascimento), It happened (Wagner Tiso and Milton Nascimento), Vacation (Wagner Tiso) and Sad night (Milton Nascimento and Mauro Oliveira).
At that time, the recordings were released by a small record company, called Dex Discos do Brasil. All this, well before Milton was unveiled to the general public, at the II International Festival of Popular Song, in 1967, with the songs Crossing And Old hill. The two songs, recorded live in competition, are also part of the playlist.
“My intention was to reconstruct Milton’s slightly erased moments, especially early in his career. It’s a map of everything that’s been lost out there. Someone had to organize and publish these recordings,” says Vieira. who did something similar work with the work of Chico Buarque.
The versions of nothing will ever be the same again And cloves and cinnamon are since the beginning of the production of the legendary album Clube da Esquina, since 1972, recently elected by an expert jury as the best Brazilian popular music album of all time. They are different recordings from those on the disc and were released on a single compact, the previous year.
cloves and cinnamon has a curiosity: Milton, in the second part, sings the lines “Dina, Dina, Quem Tempered / Cigana Que Tempered”, which does not appear in Clube da Esquina.
“The arrangements are different. This version of cloves and cinnamon came to play on the radio, but ended up being ignored by the version of the album, also because it was never re-released. nothing will ever be the same again it is sung in falsetto by Milton and Lô Borges. “, explains Vieira.
Dina is the actress Dina Sfat (1938-1989), the composer’s inspiring muse in the song. Vieira says Milton likely met the actress while filming the film The gods and the deadin Ruy Guerra, in which he participated. Milton did one of the songs on the track, Theme of the godsalso included in the playlist.
Another Milton classic, The student’s heart, music created in collaboration with Wagner Tiso, also appears in a less known version to the public. With the classic slightly modified intro and with a choir of boys at the end.
The recording was made for the special TV Globo Tiradentes, our heroaired in 1984. Released on the LP which featured the show’s soundtrack, the version has never been re-released.
Raridade is also a radio commercial where Milton presents the album Clube da Esquina with music San Vicente on background. The promotional disc was distributed by the Odeon label to radio stations across the country.
the playlist Milton Nascimento: Analogical rarities brings yet other Milton hits. Among them, Maria, Maria, from her performance at the Montreux Festival in 1984 – recently Ecad announced that this is Milton’s most recorded song – and Canção do Sal, in her first recording, before that of singer Elis Regina who popularized music.
All these recordings contained in the playlist are part of the collection of Vieira and other Brazilian music researchers. Vieira believes that some of them, particularly Milton’s early recordings, no longer exist in the collection of the label that released them: they were given to the project by an American collector.
THE The Radio Batuta playlist is easy to access and free. It is enough to access and listen to these pearls of Milton Nascimento that the memory and the zeal of the researchers have preserved.
