Tom Verlaine of Television band dies aged 73

Television lead singer and guitarist Tom Verlaine was one of the legends of punk

Tom Verlainevocalist and guitarist of Television, died at age 73 this Saturday, 28, in New York (United States). Death was confirmed by Jesse Paris Smiththe daughter of patti smitha Rolling Stone USA.

Second paris smith, Verlaine died after “a brief illness. He died peacefully in New York City, surrounded by his close friends. His vision and imagination will be missed,” he wrote in the note.

thomas miller (who adopted the artistic name of the French poet Paul Verlaine) met his bandmate Richard Hell still in high school. Before forming the Television in 1973, alongside guitarist Richard Lloydwere part of neon boys.

Television was one of the first bands to play in the legendary clubs CBGB and Max’s Kansas City. After leaving hell to join the heartbreakers, Lloyd and Verlaine worked on the disk Marquee Moon (1977), one of the main works of the band and the punk movement.

Marquee Moon was considered one of the most interesting releases of the year by bands from CGBGas Blondie and Ramones. The album is 107th on the list of the 500 best albums in history made by Rolling Stone USA.

With Television, Verlaine still launched adventure (1978) before embarking on a solo career. The band reunited in 1992 to release the last self-titled album.
