Criticism of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, the Marvel party that does not dare to shine

Marvel presents its new villain in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, a great adventure that does not want to be completely untethered from the franchise’s epic.

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ wants to take risks and have a good time. Despite its dark start, the good and crazy ideas flood the screen in an attempt to replicate the bravest Marvel Comics, that of Jack Kirby’s techno-spatial mythology, to embrace the scoundrel science fiction that they have already managed to emulate in successes such as the brilliant ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ (Taika Waititi, 2017). With everything in his favor after the disenchantment of many Marvelites with Phase 4, and the adored by all Paul Rudd as the protagonist, it was easy to enter the room with high expectations, wanting to launch into a colorful comic that, however, has ended. losing tone along the way.

A wonderful Michelle Pfeiffer guides us in this story about how the two generations of Ant-Man and Wasp, plus the youngest of the family, are absorbed into the Quantum Realm, the subatomic world of the house of ideas in which everything lives. kind of creatures. An ideal excuse to live a great adventure that, despite having a good list of excellent ingredients, ends up repeating the usual scheme of the franchise in a surprisingly bland way.

The apathy of Paul Rudd, archetype of good vibes in the industry, must have been the first red lantern during the filming of a movie that, wanting to show us a new infinite world, he seems unable to escape from an orange stage with putty soldiers as a threat to defeat. Characters like the hilarious MODOK contrast with the inability of the plot to escape from a monotony that ends up infecting even Kang the Conqueror, the new great enemy played by Jonathan Majors who seemed much more threatening in his appearance in the ‘Loki’ series than in this official presentation.

It is very difficult to completely separate yourself from the epic patina of this franchise in unstoppable expansion, but if they promise us a trip to the multiverse of madness, we need a little more light and color (at least at the beginning) so that we can rediscover the sensation of wonder we keep chasing. What would James Gunn have done with this…

For marvelitas who want to party, but not much

The best: the presence of Michelle Pfeiffer and the audacity of MODOK.

The worst: that both, instead of the norm, are the exception.
