Criticism of ‘In low season’, the neorealist comedy returns

Contrary to other current comedies and series, David Marqués’ film, ‘In low season’, does not speak of alpha males, but of alfalfa males.

Lovers of Spanish (or Italian) comedies about rogues, ruffians, cheats and lifelong little swindlers are in luck: ‘En temporada baja’ is its successful adaptation for the 21st century. Because there are the four of them, in an austere camping, pissing together (it is already known that Spanish dick…) and attentive so that they do not discover them. Appearances are deceiving, and they even rage when you don’t care.

Contrary to other comedies and current series, David Marqués’s film does not talk about alpha males. If anything, alfalfa males. Of failures in business and in love, who do not see beyond the beers that inflate their bellies. For these hustlers and honest analog bandits, survivors within this cybercrime present, it always rains and pours. What a joy to find four actors so solid and so different from each other (heirs of some characters from Gassman, Mastroianni, Tognazzi and Sordi) in a neorealist fable that knows that poverty, pocket and spirit, intelligent and affectionately shown, can make us laugh complicitly.

    For fans of neorealist comedy

The worst: the loose story of one of the female couples.
