If in ‘Beautiful youth’ (2014) Rosales made a tight portrait of that youth then without a future – let’s be realistic: they still do not have one – housed in a hostile environment, that of a galloping crisis, in his first cousin who is this wonderful film of almost ‘vangoghian’ title bets everything on an accurate study of affective relationships. And she makes it through personal journey of a young mother with the luminous face of a captivating Anna Castillowith that camera caressing her face at all times and making the viewer participate in her odyssey in search of her place in the world and that real love, which is not true.
Away from more experimental concerns, the director of ‘La Soledad’ gets his film closest, commercial and optimistic within the drama that explains, stripping the story of all stylistic trifles. Through sudden ellipses and with Triana’s music strategically placed, it brings us naturally and spontaneously closer to that changing microworld marked by the doubts that assail its components, still immature characters. And all to get to that place where, as the Sevillian group said in one of their songs, flowers bloom and where they will build that house bathed in the sun. There’s still hope.
