Criticism of ‘I have electric dreams’, incipient eroticism

From her forceful prologue and in the manner of other Latin American filmmakers such as Dominga Sotomayor or María Alché, the Costa Rican Valentina Maurel immerses us, through the sexual awakening of an adolescent in the midst of her parents’ turbulent divorce, in a family universe brimming with tension but shot through with a palpable sensuality. ‘I have electric dreams’ joins other recent films in which the transition to maturity involves reconsideration of the image of the father. Here, Eva will detect an unexpected violence in that beloved parent.

Maurel maintains the point of view in the look of this young woman who is introduced into a world of adults, the group of bohemian friends of her father, who tend to confuse freedom with irresponsibility. The director manages to generate an atmosphere that combines budding eroticism with undeniable discomforta scene of welcome complexity in which the ease of Daniela Marín Navarro shines at all times, whose magnetism electrifies the screen.
