The Rohmerian echo of the title is made explicit in the film itself: Zaida, the protagonist, admires Éric Rohmer, whose films are shown in the cycle that the Zumzeig, Barcelona’s alternative cinema, dedicates to the French filmmaker. Zaida, recently abandoned by her girlfriend, has a close friend who one fine day introduces her to her lover, a film director with whom she falls madly in love with her. So we have, in a wide and agitated circle of still young lesbian women, a sentimental fabric and a truffled tangle of unstable relationships and emotional voids very close to those of the author of ‘My friend’s friend’ (1987) and ‘The green ray’ (1986).
It is a film with an undeniable amateur aspect, naive at times, but the air that its images breathe is pleasant and fresh, in the vein of the already distant ‘Costa Brava’ (1995), by Marta Balletbò-Coll. As a whole, it offers a valuable portrait of our time traveling through a real Barcelonaauthentic (streets, neighborhoods, bars, bookstores or Zumzeig itself), but rather ignored on official maps.
