Directed by Sam H. “We are big fans of thrillers, but we feel that the predominantly hypermasculine genre often discards a stony perspective,” Freeman and Ping said in a statement. “By putting a gay hero in the middle of a thriller, our goal is to shift expectations and bring stories from the periphery to the mainstream like artists in stone.”
Female, which released South by South West last year, won the British Independent Film Award for Best British Short Film and was nominated for a BAFTA. Shorts producer Agile Films starred Myles Payne and Sam Ritzenberg of Agile as co-producers and Hayley Williams as co-producer. The project will be co-sponsored by BBC Film and Anton. Executive producers are Eva Yates for BBC Film, as well as Marni Podos, Sebastien Reibo and Cecil Gaguette for Anthony. Production will begin in London in June.
