Why does skin pigmentation appear on the face, how to prevent its occurrence, and finally, how to get rid of facial pigmentation at home or by a doctor? Let’s talk in order.

Do not take care! In our articles, we collect the latest scientific data and the opinions of authoritative health experts. But remember: only a doctor can diagnose and prescribe treatment.

Causes of facial pigmentation

A special pigment, melanin, is responsible for the darkening of the skin. It is he who, accumulating in the upper layer, forms moles and birthmarks, and if for some reason it becomes too much in the deeper layers of the skin, hyperpigmentation occurs – large dark spots , sometimes rising above the level of the skin. This is what we will hear when we talk about facial pigmentation. It can appear at any age, but most often it is found in women aged 35 to 40 and older. Why does this happen? Several factors play a role.

  • Heredity. Here the age is not too important, spots can be present on the face from birth.
  • Violation of hormonal balance in the body. It can be a period of pregnancy, puberty, perimenopause – in general, any hormonal adjustment can appear as spots on the face. It also includes various diseases that affect hormonal balance and medications based on the effects of hormones. In either case, pigmentation can be a side effect. Another hormonal reason for the appearance of spots is entering old age, in which case the balance also changes.
  • Skin damage. Burns, injuries, inflammatory processes, unsuccessful cosmetic procedures, attempts to get rid of acne on your own by squeezing – all this leaves its mark.
  • Pigmentation of the face due to the sun. Ultraviolet rays cause the production of melanin and the skin of the face is the most sensitive to it. Spots may appear in place of sunburn.

In addition to these four causes, nutritional deficiencies, allergic reactions, and other conditions may also play a role.

How to remove pigmentation from the face

As a remedy for pigmentation of the face, both symptomatic treatment, that is, the removal of the spots themselves, and general therapy, designed to cope with the causes of the appearance are used of these spots. If there are few spots and they are small, you may be able to treat them yourself by buying a cream or mask for facial pigmentation in a pharmacy or using folk methods. However, it is much more effective to consult a doctor – firstly, he will advise you on the actual working methods of removing spots, and secondly, he will help you understand the causes of pigmentation, which means that it is possible to prevent their reappearance.

Facial pigmentation: how to get rid of it at home

Here you can do it in two ways: either buy an ointment for your face pigmentation in a pharmacy, or make a bleaching agent from what is at hand. The first case is simpler, the second is probably cheaper.

In the pharmacy you need to look at whitening creams and ointments. These include, for example, clearvin, achromin, sesderma, skincode. They should be used day and night. Thus, the effect will be the most noticeable.

At home, apple cider vinegar helps remove pigmentation from the face (mix with water 1:1, apply to spots, hold for a few minutes, rinse with warm water), aloe vera (apply before bedtime, wash off in the morning), red onion (peel mask), green tea extract (infuse one sachet with boiling water, hold for 3-5 minutes, cool, apply to the stain), milk (wet a cotton ball, wipe the stains). All these methods have a scientific basis – the active substances contained in the ingredients lighten and nourish the skin. However, pharmaceuticals can work better by combining different components.

Removal of facial pigmentation: which doctor to consult

With pigmentation on the face, the first thing to do is to go to a dermatologist, such conditions are within his competence. You may also need to see a therapist, an endocrinologist, a gastroenterologist and/or a gynecologist, these doctors will help you determine the true cause of the pimples. To understand this, you need to understand whether spots are associated with hormonal imbalances, are there any chronic diseases that can manifest themselves in this way, what drugs can have such an effect (for example, contraceptives), or can -be it turns out that pigmentation occurs due to incorrectly selected cosmetics – and it happens.

Everything is clear with the treatment of diseases – it is different in each case, but what to do with the spots themselves? There are several methods to make the skin bright and beautiful again.

  • All types of peels: chemical, laser, ultrasound. It’s important to have them done by a specialist with medical training – so there’s less chance of something going wrong and the skin being damaged instead of healed.
  • Microdermabrasion. In fact, it is also a peeling, only mechanical, the skin is polished with an abrasive material.
  • Phototherapy. Directed beams of light destroy cells that have accumulated too much melanin, the spot brightens.
  • Mesotherapy. This is an injection method, the skin is lightened by injections of special preparations.

It is difficult to say which of all these remedies for pigmentation of the face is the best, the doctor will help you choose.

What to do so that spots on the face do not appear

Preventing hyperpigmentation is quite simple. Only 3 rules:

  1. Use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30-50.
  2. Avoid the sun at its peak.
  3. If possible, wear closed clothing.

If the pigmentation is due to medications, it may help to replace them with medications that are similar in action, but without these side effects.

Spots on the face usually do not indicate any serious problem and in themselves do not bring any discomfort, excluding the aesthetic component. Modern tools are quite capable of answering the question of how to whiten a face with pigmentation.
