5 ‘Silent’ Stroke Symptoms: If You Don’t Notice Them, You Won’t Get Timely Treatment

Every minute in Russia someone is faced with a stroke. One in ten patients with impaired cerebral circulation dies. Therefore, it is so important to know the symptoms of a stroke – the earlier treatment is started, the better.

You’ve almost certainly heard of the FAST scale – it’s still considered one of the best ways to notice when someone needs to call an ambulance. The name of the test is an abbreviation of four words: face (face), arm (hand), speech (speech), time (time). FAST lets you notice the “noisy” symptoms of a stroke.

The first symptom of a stroke: the face

If a person is asked to smile or show his teeth, a twisted grimace is obtained: the lips on one side will remain “sagging”.

The second symptom of a stroke: the hands

A seated or standing person cannot raise and hold both hands at a 90° angle: one will either be lagging behind or immobile.

The third symptom of a stroke: speech

After a stroke, speech becomes slurred and garbled: a person cannot clearly pronounce the simplest sentence and sometimes is not able to speak at all.

Fourth rule: time

If you notice at least one of these signs, urgently call an ambulance – the person needs medical help.

Five “silent” symptoms of a stroke

There are also less obvious signs – what cardiovascular specialists at the American Vital Heart and Vein Medical Center call the “silent” symptoms of a stroke. “You can have a stroke without even noticing it,” doctors warn.

This situation is very dangerous – a violation of the blood circulation of the brain causes serious damage to the organ, and if a person does not receive the necessary treatment in a timely manner, he will develop serious health problems.

As scientists have discovered, the subtle symptoms of a stroke include:

  1. Sudden loss of balance
  2. Temporary muscle failure (including bladder)
  3. Short term memory loss
  4. Sudden mood swings
  5. A sharp decline in cognitive abilities – deterioration in memory, attention, ability to reason logically and understand information

The doctors at Vital Heart and Vein urge anyone experiencing these symptoms to seek medical attention. “This should be done even if the problems have disappeared and not reappeared,” experts say.
