Highlander: Chad Stahelski updates on the remake with Henry Cavill

From one warrior to another

Producing and directing the John Wick movies is a full-time job. Chad Stahelski has had a very busy last few years and will be able to breathe a bit with the release of John Wick: Chapter 4. This fourth work in the action saga carried out by Keanu Reeves is perhaps not the last, however a parenthesis opens until we know more about the production of a John Wick 5. And Chad Stahelski could put this open-ended time to good use by finally developing the ambitious project to which he is linked: a new movie Highlanders.

Starring actor Henry Cavill in the title role, fans of immortal warrior Connor MacLeod await this remake of the Highlanders since 1986 for centuries. Except that the start of the project is slipping. Now that Chad Stahelski has more time to spend on it, the question of his timeliness arises.

Chad Stahelksi doesn’t want to rush

Invited by Expiration to express himself on the mythologies of John Wick and Highlander, the director thus evoked with which approach the remake should be approached.

I worked on “Highlander” for years, for Henry Cavill. Working retroactively is difficult. The difference with John Wick is that with Wick we didn’t have seven series, two spin-offs and five movies. If I were to do a remake of “Highlander” today, there would be a lot of mythology in those first couple hours, we couldn’t explore anything without it. That said, Highlander as a series would be great. There would be time to build, to explore all those flashbacks and their potential. It’s always more complex when you try to do something with such a mythology.

Announced in 2021 to direct, with Henry Cavill in the lead role, Chad Stahelski says he’s still in the works, but mention of a series project could suggest that nothing has been resolved on Lionsgate’s side yetleading the project Highlanders. For the director as for the actor, it would in fact be a project developed over time to be of quality, and therefore not to be undertaken lightly.

But with now time being offered to Chad Stahelski and the end of the Superman adventure for Henry Cavill, who claims the two men could not undertake the reboot of the franchise ?
