Friends: Jennifer Aniston responds to criticism from the younger generation

Criticized friends

Series Friends, which aired between 1994 and 2004, is still popular today, almost twenty years after its hiatus. It especially is its arrival on Netflix which allowed a large number of viewers to find out for the first time. Indeed, if for many of us the arrival of the series on the platform allowed us to review the episodes, others got to know the six friends from New York.

And for the younger generation, some aspects of the show created by Marta Kauffman and David Crane have not convinced. Therefore, the series has been criticized in particular by new viewers for its lack of diversity (we have to wait for season 9 to have the first regular black character), and his alleged transphobia (with the character treatment of Chandler’s father). Some of these new viewers also pointed to homophobic and gross phobic elements. So much so that these criticisms forced Marta Kauffman to react in 2022. He said at the time that he regretted the lack of diversity Friends.

He is currently promoting the film Murder mystery 2 (March 31 on Netflix), Jennifer Aniston, the unforgettable interpreter of Rachel Greenspoke of criticism to Friends. He told AFP (via Le Figaro):

There’s a whole new generation of kids who now watch episodes of Friends and find them offensive (…) I don’t know… Everyone always finds something offensive. There were things that weren’t wanted and others that perhaps we should have thought about more (…) But there wasn’t the same sensitivity as today.

More generally, Jennifer Aniston also spoke the state of comedy todayespecially in the United States:

The world needs humor (…) Comedy has evolved, films have changed. Now, it’s a bit complicated because you have to be very careful, which makes it very difficult for the actors, because the beauty of comedy is laughing at yourself, laughing at life (…) The world needs humour! You shouldn’t take yourself too seriously. Especially in the US. Everyone is too divided
