“I confess that before Rick Carmichael and John Hay sent me the fruits of their wonderful research, I had never heard of Willem Arondeus or Frida Bellinfante; “Whom I now consider to be true and remarkable heroes,” said Fry. “His openly gay life was amazing enough in the 1930s, but after the Nazis invaded his homeland of Holland, they found the depth of courage and determination that has been truly inspiring for years. This is a question we often ask ourselves: how do I respond to the occupation of my country? Would I fight for freedom if I gave up and didn’t stay out of trouble? I think we need to remember the world of Willem and Frida, ordinary people who found extraordinary inner resources.”

Fry will present an on-camera documentary and interview historians, as well as visit the event’s original locations.

Channel 4 received the project from Atticus Films, produced by Julian Scott. Disrupting Influence handles international sales and presents the project to buyers at Cannes Film Market. Glenn Kendrick Ackerman, Jason Piet and Evan Dunbar are executive producers of Disrupting Influence. Basic filming will begin on June 6.
