Highland Film Group (HFG) has partnered with BuzzFeed Studios to develop, produce, purchase and distribute three to five feature films a year in the $5-12 million range.
Under the agreement, BuzzFeed Studios will lead film production and in-house creative development resources derived from its intellectual property, brands and audience data. All films will be released in the United States by The Avenue, the distribution arm of HFG, and BuzzFeed Studios will do the marketing through its digital network. Highland Film Group will handle foreign distribution rights for selected titles, and BuzzFeed will rely on its international publications to promote these subtitles locally.
The deal was brokered by Fraser, CEO of Highland Film Group, JJ Caruth, president of distribution and internal marketing for The Avenue, and Richard Alan Reid, head of studio at BuzzFeed Inc.
