Eva Green versus White Lantern
In 2019, Eva Green is announced for casting British sci-fi film A patriot directed by Dan Pringle produced by White Lantern Films. But a few weeks before filming, the feature collapses, and joins the long list of films that died in the bud. However, the actress’s contract stipulates that she must receive her compensation, even if the film is not made (up to one million euros).
To counter this request after the cancellation of the film, the producers of the White Lantern house claim that the actress would participate in the feature film wreck with “unreasonable demands” and would go to great lengths to prevent the film from being made. What the latter currently shows Three Musketeers fiercely refuted. To decide, therefore, a trial between Eva Green and the White Lantern opened last January. And the verdict was handed down this Friday, April 28.

The actress wins the fight
After listening to various testimonies about the chaotic pre-production of the film A patriotthe verdict was passed in favor of Eva Green. Therefore, the judge stated that the actress had not “significantly violated the terms of the agreement with the artist”, nor did she have “the intention to terminate or cancel the agreement”. At the end of these three months of trial, Eva Green wanted to share her testimony, and thank those who supported her in this media storm.
Eva Green’s full statement:
Today, after a long legal battle, I won my case in the High Court in London. The case has been widely misreported in the press and I would like to take this opportunity to make my personal statement.
I won my case against the financiers of the film and all the charges brought against me were completely dismissed by the judge. My professional reputation has been maintained. The judge concluded that I had never breached my contractual obligations. The judgment is clear. I am grateful to the court, the judge, my legal team and my brave agent who is my strength and my shield.
In this lawsuit, I’ve been forced to stand up to a small group of men who have tried to use me as a scapegoat to cover up their mistakes. I am proud that I stood up to their bullying tactics. They made false allegations about me in public court records, which the judge has now proven to be totally wrong.
Some people in the press were only too happy to reproduce these lies without fact-checking. There are few things the media loves more than throwing a woman away. I felt like I was being attacked by a pack of hounds. I was portrayed badly, taken out of context, and my desire to make the best film possible presented as female hysteria. It was cruel and it was wrong.
As a result of this case, the fuse has broken: I’m a little afraid of public speaking, I don’t understand financial structures, I’m vulnerable to attack, I’m passionate about my job, and my heart breaks when people are mean . I’m also the type of person who sneaks away at parties and is happiest at home with my dogs. But most of all I want to add that I am also happier when I am making films that I love and believe in, working side by side with brilliant teams in the UK or abroad. Therefore, the deliberate low coverage of some media magnified the pain to a considerable degree and it was more painful than I can tell.
I defended tooth and nail for the magnificent film I loved and signed up for. A film that spoke to a cause close to my heart – climate change – and warned against the wars for resources and mass migrations that would occur if we did not solve the problem.
I held on and this time justice prevailed. I wish I could say that this ordeal has made me stronger, better, wiser. But seeing my personal life dragged out in the press and the courts has been more hurtful and hurtful than I can say. That’s why I want to thank the caring people who, when I was vilified in the press, supported me on social media and elsewhere. It was a great comfort to me to know that I was not alone and it helped to know that so many people could see right through the legal tricks and PR and manipulations.
I promise with all my heart that I will always try to deserve the kind support you have given me.
