Christopher Nolan finds his favorite actors for Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer is the twelfth feature film by Christopher Nolan. And as always, it’s a great event. The director promises a unique work to tell the story of Julius Robert Oppenheimer, a physicist involved the creation of the atomic bomb During the Second World War. For the occasion, the director would have reproduced a nuclear explosion without CGI, for a result that would have devastated the first spectators.

Oppenheimer: here are the first opinions on Christopher Nolan’s film event
But the film also allows Christopher Nolan to direct again Cillian Murphy, one of the director’s favorite actors. And if Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett or even Rami Malek are collaborating with him for the first time, this is not the case for Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman and Matt Damon, all also in the cast. Matt Damon precisely, that we could see Interstellar (2014), did not hesitate to agree to once again act in front of the director’s camera. And this, while the profession of her had a negative impact on your relationship.
Matt Damon in couples therapy
Indeed, the actor declared during a discussion with the film team organized by EW which before receiving Christopher Nolan’s call, he was following couples therapy with his wife Luciana Bozán. Then he hadnegotiated for a long time” with her for take a break from work. His wife obviously wants her to spend more time with family than she does. But Christopher Nolan has arrived upset his plans.
It may seem made up, but it’s true. I had – without wanting to get too personal – negotiated at length with my wife about taking a break. I’d been in Interstellar, and then Christopher Nolan sidelined me for a few movies, so I wasn’t in his rotation. But I negotiated in couples therapy – and it’s true – that the only condition that allowed me to get out of this hiatus was that Christopher Nolan called me. And this, without knowing if he was working on something, because he never tells you. He just calls you out of the blue. And so it was a good story in my family…

So Christopher Nolan called and Matt Damon said yes to star Oppenheimer. He interprets General Leslie Groves, head of the Manhattan Project (the code name of the atomic bomb research project). We can only hope for the actor that his decision hasn’t affected his couple too much. But given the way he told this anecdote, we can assume that his wife doesn’t care too much for him.
Oppenheimer will be released in theaters on July 19, 2023.
