Tapie: Bernard Tapie’s children criticize Netflix biographical series

The Netflix series makes people react

The series is available from September 13th on Netflix Tapie, is already receiving a lot of attention. There is Laurent Lafitte’s acclaimed performance in the role of sultry businessman died in October 2021, the ambition of the series and its production quality, and simply the audience’s natural attraction to an ultra-media personality since the end of the 20th century.

It is not surprising that Tristan Séguéla’s series is divided, and on the side of the dissatisfied we find in particular Laurent Tapie, son of Bernard Tapie. He himself is a businessman, currently the media tour to give their opinion on the biopic series.

Without animosity, it is so and particularly on Information about France, on the evening of September 12, drew up his list of criticisms. First of all, he regrets not having had the opportunity to discover the series sooner. For him it was a maneuver by Netflix to avoid potential inconveniences: “I think Netflix was afraid that if we reacted badly, we would take action. They waited until it was extremely late. They were wrong.”

If Laurent Tapie explains that he “liked the series moderately”, admitting however that at certain moments he “enjoyed it”, he does not question the final result but rather the approach of Netflix and Tristan Séguéla. In fact, he claims that Tristan Séguéla had initially offered him a right of inspection, a form of consultation, but that nothing happened.

Ten years ago I wrote the screenplay for a film, which has nothing to do with the series. When the show started, Tristan and I had lunch together, and he told me that he would include me, that he would show me things, but he never did. But I don’t blame him. I understand that Netflix said to themselves “there is no way there is a Tapie in the script, it would water down the dark parts of the character”, I understand this fear. But that’s not true, I’m very clear about my father.

Sophie Tapie angry with Tristan Séguéla

On this issue of the consultation, Laurent Tapie explained to CNews that he does not harbor any resentment and that he understands Tristan Séguéla’s entrepreneurial approach.

Tristan Séguéla had an entrepreneurial approach and when an entrepreneur wants to carry out his project, he doesn’t ask for authorization, he does it. I respect that. I have no hard feelings towards this, but my frustration is that there were better things to do. All the actors are very good but I don’t think the series was very successful.

His younger sister Sophie is also critical of the series, but minces less than her brother. On Instagram, in fact, she expressed herself with a more personal tone, criticizing the attitude of director Tristan Séguéla.

“Hurt the crook.” Knowing that he verbalized before his death that he was against this series… Which shows that disrespect has no limits. I am even more shocked that the series is an initiative of Tristan Séguéla, a family who has been “friends” of the Tapies for 40 years…
