The horror movie Kuntilanak bows
The Indonesian film Kuntilanakhorror film directed by Rizal Mantovani in 2018 and proposed the same year on Netflix, will leave the catalog of the streaming platform on October 12, 2023. There are only a few hours left to give yourself a good scare, in preparation for Halloween which is getting ever closer. Its distribution remained almost confidential among French subscribers. However, it generated enough interest worldwide for two sequels to see the light of day: Kuntilanak 2 in 2019 and Kuntilanak 3 in 2022.

Kuntilanak tells the following story: Five children discover that the old mirror found in their orphanage houses an evil spirit that kidnaps the children and imprisons them there.
The feature film is a remake of the film of the same name released in 2006, already directed by Rizal Mantovani. And interestingly, this film itself had two sequels, released in 2007 and 2008, again with Rizal Mantovani at the helm. So we have three first films and their three remakes ten years later. The success of his films can be explained partly by the fact that “Kuntilanak” is a famous Indonesian mythological creature, also called “Pontianak”. This creature is part of Indonesian folklore and is also present in many cultures in this region of the world.
