Snake Kai (2018) became one of the most watched series on Netflixand for four full seasons, was able to develop its own universe by evolving the sequel to karate Kid for something unique and different.

It’s fun, you expand the universe. You have new characters and with new characters, new perspectives, new settings, and that brings the modern element to the show.
Schlossberg he also said that he was able to explore different types of characters without the series forgetting its roots, which it wouldn’t be able to do in a movie.
The filmmaker also commented that they got to watch the movie again, to always keep in mind why they love martial arts movies. He further explains that the series worked on a global level, as they tell universal stories.
Different cultures meeting, people you wouldn’t expect to connect with. So we try to focus on that, while taking advantage of different characters, genres, backgrounds and interpreting things to make it look like the Karate Kid, but it’s something entirely different.

Set 30 years after karate Kid, Snake Kai continues the old rivalry between Daniel and Johnnythis time, showing more in depth other sides of the characters that the public did not know until then.
Full of movie references, the series has members of the original cast and was created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg as a YouTube production, before being purchased by Netflix.
