Hunger Games: the director has a big regret for the end of the saga

The Hunger Games: a billion-dollar saga

The saga Hunger Games was born from the pen of Suzanne Collins, who published the first volume in 2008. In a short time, the story of Katniss Everdeen, a young girl who volunteers to participate in televised death games in a dystopian future, has fascinated millions of readers all over the world. The complex universe, deep themes such as rebellion, media manipulation and survival, as well as well-developed characters, have made this trilogy a true literary phenomenon.

Faced with such a success, it wasn’t surprising to see Hollywood capture the story. In 2012, the first film of the saga was released, directed by Gary Ross, with Jennifer Lawrence in the main role (although she almost refused). The next three films, directed by Francis Lawrence, followed apace, and each episode was enthusiastically received by audiences. At the box office, the saga Hunger Games has proven its power, generating over three billion dollars in revenue globally.

Francis Lawrence has one regret about the end of the saga

Francis Lawrence, iconic director of the film series Hunger Games, expressed great regret regarding the final parts of the saga. In a recent interview with People, Lawrence revealed that he deeply regretted splitting the final book, “The Revolt,” into two separate films. Although this decision made it possible to adapt more content from the bookoffering nearly four hours of screen time for the final volume, he acknowledges that this led to fan frustration.

The release of The uprising, part 1 in November 2014, followed by The Uprising, Part 2 the following year, he prolonged the wait of fans of the original literary trilogy. Lawrence admits that despite the benefits of adaptation, he perfectly understands the spectators’ irritation at this decisionn to divide the ending into two parts. If he had to do it again, he would opt for a single movie for the last book.

The Hunger Games: the prequel is coming

Seven years after the release of the last work, we will soon return to Panem with the fifth film of the saga, entitled The Rime of the Serpent and the Songbird and once again directed by Francis Lawrence. This new chapter, based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins published in 2020, immerses us sixty years before Katniss Everdeen’s emblematic revolt.

The plot takes place during the tenth edition of the Hunger Games and features a young Coriolanus Snow, played by Tom Blyth, long before he became the formidable president of Panem. For the first time, Snow takes on the role of mentor, taking District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird, played by Rachel Zegler, under his wing.
