Matthew Vaughn has a (bad) idea for the future Star Wars
Hollywood has a very strong taste for it restarts. However, there are some great film sagas that we would not have imagined would be affected. AS Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings OR Star Wars. However, the first will be relaunched as a series, while for the second Warner Bros. recently announced the start of new films. Which is perhaps understandable given that novels originally existed.
Stay then Star Warswhose universe continues to expand series on Disney+. As for films, projects haven’t progressed much despite numerous announcements in recent years. But nothing close to a reboot. At least for now.

Because that’s what Matthew Vaughn would like to see. The director of the films Kingsman (and the upcoming film Argyle) mentioned this idea during an interview with ScreenRant. Declares that in the event of a relaunch of the Star Warsreturn to the characters of the first trilogy, Luke Skywalker, Leia and Han Soloit would be the best thing to do.
If someone asked me, what do you want to do? I would say I want to delve into someone else’s universe, characters and other franchises. At first I said it as a joke, but in the end maybe that’s what I want to do. If they want to reboot Star Wars, they could start with the Skywalkers. And then I was like, “Hey, this is going to be interesting.” Because for me it has to be something bold, different and courageous.
“I want to see Luke Skywalker”
Matthew Vaughn is obviously aware that for many such a project would be impossible and this no one would dare touch such icons. However, the director has arguments taking into consideration in particular another great saga James Bond.
I was told it was impossible. I said, “There have been three Spider-Mans, James Bonds. What are you talking about? Why can’t it be?” I don’t control Star Wars, but if I could, I’d do something big, bold, with great characters. I want to see Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewie do their thing. Not a distant cousin. Who is interested?
This is obviously Matthew Vaughn’s opinion and not everyone will agree with him (including us). Of course, telling the story of “a distant cousin” isn’t necessarily the most interesting thing. But it’s just the fact of stick to the original characters which causes tiredness and gives rise to a lack of originality.
Would it really be so daring to return to already known characters? Among the projects mentioned, the series The Acolytewhich must have happened 200 years earlier The Phantom Menace, it seemed like the most interesting idea to us. But Disney decided to stay close to the Skywalkers for an upcoming film who will see the return of Daisy Ridley as Reyand will take place 15 years later The Rise of Skywalker. It remains to be hoped that Lucasfilm is not yet thinking about a reboot of the first films and that Matthew Vaughn’s idea remains at the fantasy stage.
