Tim Sale, Batman: The Long Halloween artist, dies at 66

While Batman has been a pop culture phenomenon since his debut in the pages of 1939 detective comics # 27, some focusing on Caped Cruder have been considered particularly iconic for decades. One of these stories is Batman: The long Halloween, which was written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale, and is not only critically loved but also served as the inspiration for some Batman movies. Sadly, half of that creative team is no longer with us, as Sale passed away at the age of 66.

Earlier this week, DC Comic creative director / editor Jim Lee announced the Twitter that Tim Sale had been hospitalized for “serious medical conditions,” and now the people behind Sale’s Twitter account have shared that he is dead, saying:

While Batman: The Long Halloween it was one of the many collaborations between Tim Sale and Jeph Loeb, perhaps the most famous of this group. Released as a 13-issue miniseries from 1996 to 1997, this story takes place one year after the events of Batman: Year One, and followed Bruce Wayne as he tried to track down serial killer Holiday and take on Gotham’s organized crime and the city’s most colorful thieves along the way. Christopher Nolan and Matt Reeves recognized this the long halloween has been an essential source of inspiration in The black knight Yes the Batmanrespectively, and the story was adapted directly into a two-part animated film last year.

Batman: The long Halloween followed Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale who worked together on the Halloween Specials Batman: Legends of the Dark Knightand they joined again the long halloweenpublication of to explore Batman’s corner of the DC Universe in Batman: Dark Victory, Catwoman: When in Rome Yes Batman: The long Halloween special # 1, the latest of which was released last year.
