Alien return with Romulus
Launched in 1979 with The eighth passenger, the saga Alien started by Ridley Scott continues to develop. After four first films, released in 1986, 1992 and 1997, the filmmaker returned to this universe with Prometheus (2012). A film quite different from the first Alien since it is set long ago and serves to tell, among other things, the origins of the xenomorphs.
Then it arrived Alien: Covenant in 2017, following Prometheus which happens even earlier The eighth passenger, and therefore still without the cult heroine, Ripley. Seven years later, we will finally see a new movie Alien land on screens with Romulusscheduled for August 14, 2024. This seventh film in the series (not counting the two films Alien versus predator) is this time produced by Fede Alvarez known for his films evil Dead, Don’t Breathe: The House of Darkness AND Millenium: What doesn’t kill me.
Although we still have to wait before we can see the first images of theAlien: Romulus, different elements of the plot have already been revealed. We therefore know that the feature film will be present “a group of young people in a distant world”. They will, like Ripley, have to face “the most terrifying life form in the universe”. Hence, the xenomorphs.
When will the film be set?
Until now we still thought soAlien: Romulus it would be a prequel to the saga, in the manner of Prometheus AND Covenant. But according to one of the actors in the next film, it will be a little more complicated. In fact, during the Gotham Awards, Cailee Spaeny provided interesting details Variety specifying that the plot”should be localized between the first and second films“. OR between 2122 and 2179while Ripley sleeps in biostasis and drifts through space after leaving the Nostromo.
The actress, who will be accompanied by Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City, Transformers: The Last Knight), Archie Renaux (Morbius), Spike Fearn (After sun), David Jonsson (Industry) and Aileen Wu, also explained that the xenomorphs present in Alien: Romulus will have a design close to those of James Cameron’s filmas the same technical team worked on the film.
They brought the same crew from Aliens, the James Cameron film. The same people who built those xenomorphs have come to build ours. So seeing the original design with the people who have worked on these films for over 45 years and dedicated so much of their lives was truly incredible.
Alien: Romulus it should therefore return to the origins of the saga. It will be interesting to see how the film positions itself between the first two episodes. To do this, see you on August 14, 2024 in theaters.
