The World After Us: A Mystery Thriller on Netflix
This is one of this year’s event films on Netflix: The world after us directed by Sam Esmail is finally available from December 8th. And the least we can say is that it didn’t take long to get viewers excited! Thus, the feature film starring Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali went straight to first place on the podium of the most viewed films on the platform.
The plot follows Amanda and her husband Clay, who, with their children Archie and Rose, rent a luxury villa for a relaxing weekend in the suburbs of New York. Their stay is abruptly interrupted by the unexpected arrival of GH and his daughter Ruth, who claim to be the owners of the house and seek refuge under the pretext of a large-scale cyber attack. The two families will therefore have to coexist and face a growing external threat, which is throwing the world as we know it into chaos.

The world after us: why the name of the boat is very important
What do deer represent? Sam Esmail answers us
As the threat of a cyber attack grows and the planet descends into chaos, dozens of deer appear around the mansion. These animals don’t seem scared. Indeed, they even give us the impression of wanting to get closer to humans, and in particular to the young Rose, who seems to have a special bond with them.
About this presence of deer in The world after usSam Esmail confided that it had a very particular symbolism:
For me, the image of deer and animals in general is a metaphor for Mother Nature warning us of what lies ahead. I really connected it to the character of Rose, as an allegory of how the younger generation right now is trying to warn us about future dangers, whether it’s climate change or war or famine, and how we don’t listen. This is what I wanted to convey with the deer: Mother Nature tries to make us pay attention, but we look away.
