The most popular ads on YouTube last year were a lot like the big world of content: celebrity ads and long-term premium content (at least for advertising) dominating the field.
YouTube released its annual YouTube Ads Ranking on Monday, highlighting the 10 most popular commercial sites for the service over the past year. The list was released in conjunction with the Cannes Lions Festival, which starts this week in Cannes, France.
Among the best commercials was Netflix’s first 2-minute trailer. squid game; A two-minute-plus seat for the Swiss Tourist Office, starring Roger Federer and Anne Hathaway; Amazon ad featuring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost; Nissan ad featuring Eugene Levy, Dave Bautista and Bree Larson; Turkish Airlines ad starring Morgan Freeman; Chevrolet ad com soprano actors Jamie Lynn-Siegler and Robert Iller; And a nearly nine-minute short film from Apple.
“If this work shows us anything, it’s the human connection and the wonderful idea that captures our collective cultural pulse, now more important than ever. At Google, we talk about accessing and using information: whether I can get the right information, whether it’s important to me. I think the same concept applies to a powerful brand story across our platforms,” said Eugene Buono, Creative Director of Creative Work at Google US. Effective and compelling creative work. Great stories in the hands of great storytellers. The collection of this year’s ad scoreboards proves that this is where it all begins.
The most popular ad on YouTube last year was that of Samsung for the new Galaxy smartphone.
