The project was announced in 2018 and then took five years to enter production. A long time but probably necessary to do things well, given that this series is the adaptation of the great film by Jacques Audiard a prophetreleased in cinemas in 2009. In 2024 we will therefore be able to discover the series a prophetcreated by two of the screenwriters of Jacques Audiard’s film, Nicolas Peufaillit and Abdel Raouf Dafri.
This will be faithful to the original work, with a main character with the same name, Malik El Djebena, with a seemingly similar background but different origins. There is also a change of scenery, with a plot that will take place in Marseille and in the Baumettes prison, as well as in Italy.
Recognized actors around a beginner
Like Tahar Rahim at the time, who had only appeared in one film, Insideand in the series The commonit is a young, almost unknown actor who will play Malik : Mamadou Sidibe. “Son” Malik is a “mule” of African origin, who travels between Marseille and Mayotte, before being incarcerated in Baumettes. There, a boss from the French-Arab community of Marseille will take care of him.
Other actors announced include Sami Bouajila (Thieves) and Moussa Maaskri (Peace Massilia), Ouassini Embarek (Athena), Nailia Harzoune (Positioned) and Matteo Lucci (Oussekine). The series is directed by Italian director Enrico Maria Artale, who notably worked on the series Romulus AND Django. The music for the series is composed by Para One, a close collaborator of Céline Sciamma.
Series a prophet, developed under the OCS banner, will have 8 episodes. It currently doesn’t have a release date, but we should be able to find out in 2024.
