Robert Downey Jr. celebrated
Iconic interpreter ofIron Man in the MCU, Robert Downey Jr. invented Oppenheimer to turn the page a little more on this sequence of his career. His portrayal of Lewis Strauss, president of the Atomic Energy Commission and sworn adversary of Robert J. Oppenheimer, in Christopher Nolan’s film was praised by both audiences and colleagues, and is one of the favorites for the Oscar for best supporting actor, later Golden Globes 2024 obtained in this category.

The ceremony of Critics’ Choice Awardswhich was held on January 14, 2024, also distinguished it, since Robert Downey Jr. left with Award for best supporting role.
“Funny as a fart under the covers”
Finally back in the good graces of the professional critics who, until then, had treated him with polite indifference, the actor said he was particularly honored, and chose humor for his acceptance speech. Indeed, Robert Downey Jr. brought laughter from the assembly by reading some very harsh criticism that some members of the Critics Choice Association may have addressed to him in the past.
I was thinking about it this morning, I love critics… You know, they gave me so much wonderful feedback, really unforgettable moments and some of it was so poetic. I wanted to share a few that I have received over the years.
The first is a sort of haiku: “messy, messy and lazy”. The next is more metaphorical: “as if Pee-Wee Herman was waking up from a coma.” There’s this, from a British critic: “a staggering waste of talent.” And finally this, which remains in the memory: “Funny as a fart under the covers”.
Derision and above all self-irony for Robert Downey Jr., who did not specify which of his performances were the subject of these beautiful words, which obviously went straight to his heart…
