The kidnapped truth twists the brains of Netflix subscribers
The documentary miniseries is available from January 17th The kidnapped truth: from the dream to the American nightmare, captivates subscribers on Netflix. In just 48 hours, the program took first place among the most watched series on the platform, putting an end to the reign of Double trap.
The three episodes tell a kidnapping story that made headlines in the United States in 2015: that of Denise Huskins, kidnapped after she and her boyfriend Aaron Quinn were victims of a home invasion. Each episode of the Netflix series focuses on telling this story from the point of view of the different protagonists : first and foremost that of Aaron, who the detective in charge of the case, Mat Mustard, soon considers as the number one suspect, even though there was no evidence to incriminate him. Then we witness the testimony of Denise, who reappeared two days later, and was also considered a liar by Detective Mustard, from the Vallejo police station in California.
The police station was harassed after the series was put online
We learn in episode 3 of The truth kidnapped that Denise Huskins was indeed the victim of a kidnapping and that she suffered multiple sexual assaults during the 48 hours after her disappearance. In light of his information, the incompetence of detective Mat Mustard is highlighted, as he never looked for other hypotheses other than his own belief, according to which the spouses had lied and that they were not victims, but executioners. This hypothesis also made the rounds in the media, and the case was compared to the film Gone girl by David Fincher, in which the girlfriend plans everything.
Soon after the Netflix miniseries was released online, the Vallejo police station, where Mat Mustard still works, was subjected to harassment. First, on the property’s Google page, Hundreds of negative reviews have been left mentioning Mustard’s incompetence and dangerousness. The police station also reportedly received numerous threatening calls.
Even on social networks, the establishment has been the target of hundreds of hateful messages aimed at the Detective, as in this post from 2022 (the last published by the police headquarters), in which many people ask for the Detective’s resignation.
