The universe of Blade Runner expands
In 2017, the universe of Blade Runner was relaunched by Denis Villeneuve with Blade Runner 2049. A film that Ridley Scott regrets not having directed himself. But despite the film’s commercial failure (less than $260 million in worldwide revenue on a $150 million budget, which isn’t much), other projects were initiated. In addition to the animated shorts that accompanied the film, there were the animated series Blade Runner-Black Lotus (2021). A video game was also recently revealed. And we have been waiting for the release of the live action series since 2021, Blade Runner 2099.
It was Ridley Scott himself who announced the production of a series consisting of ten episodes of one hour each. But since then, nothing. No information has been leaked about casting, story or even an air date. We had even started to forget about this project. Until Expiration finally offers news from the show. According to American media, the series should filming will begin soon. This is expected to happen during spring in Prague.
The live series will soon be filmed
Expiration specifies that an administrator has been hired to lead the first two episodesand then set the tone of Blade Runner 2099. That would be Jonathan van Tulleken. A name that doesn’t say much about the genre. Except that he has produced two episodes of Shogun. This bodes well as we see the feedback on the Disney+ series.
Finally, although an air date has not yet been announced, we know that the series can be discovered on PrimeVideo. If filming goes well this year, we can hope to see the result in 2025 or early 2026, depending on the post-production work that will be necessary. Now we wait for the casting to be revealed.
