The 3-Body Problem: Netflix’s Great Equation
Netflix does not admit mistakes: with its new series of events, The 3-body problem, the streaming giant brought out the heavy artillery. With a budget of around $200 million (a record for a first season), and the creators of game of Thrones at the helm, all the lights seem to be green for the eight-episode series to be a total success.
Adapted from the bestseller of the same name (first volume of a trilogy) by Chinese writer Liu Cixin, the science fiction series extends from the Chinese cultural revolution of the 1960s to the present day, thus mixing different temporalities and places. It follows the surprising discoveries of several specialists, as the laws of science are overturned by an imminent threat. A mysterious group operates in the shadows, while a virtual reality game appears, a little too real. Scientists are psychologically influenced to the point of committing suicide.
