Max: Warner’s streaming platform arrives in France
While we already find ourselves saturated with streaming platforms, a small novelty will soon arrive in France, which risks shaking Netflix. This is Warner’s streaming platform, Max, formerly known as HBO Max, one of the reference platforms in the United States and a name known to the international public.
Max is the ambitious result of an overhaul and expansion of HBO Max, initially launched in the United States in May 2023. This platform aims to be the crossroads of the best productions from Warner Bros., HBO, Discovery and Eurosport.
Among the flagship programs that have consolidated Max’s reputation in the United States and which are highly anticipated by the French public, we find iconic series such as game of Thrones and its spin-off series House of the Dragonbut also The last of us, Succession, The White Lotus, EuphoriaOR True detective.

Date, price, subscriptions: everything we know about Max
Max is scheduled to roll out in Europe on May 21, marking the start of an ambitious expansion across the continent. France, set for a special introduction before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (all events will be broadcast on the platform), is in a strategic launch window between May 21st and July 26th. This period could coincide with the premiere of the second season of House of the Dragon on June 17, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.
As for subscriptions, Max will offer several options, like its competitors, in versions with and without advertising:
- Base with advertising : This package offers discounted access with advertising. Users can watch content on two devices simultaneously in Full HD resolution. Initially available in nine European countries, including France, this plan will later be extended to other regions.
- Standard : This option also allows viewing on two devices simultaneously in Full HD, with the added benefit of being able to download up to 30 pieces of content for offline viewing.
- Award : Offering the best experience, this plan allows streaming to four devices simultaneously, in Full HD or 4K with Dolby Atmos audio (subject to availability), and allows you to download up to 100 pieces of content for offline viewing.
- Sporty option : For sports fans, this additional option provides coverage of major sporting events, including Grand Slam tournaments, major cycling tours and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It allows you to watch sports content on two devices at the same time.
The official launch date of Max in France has not yet been announced.
