Pirates of the Caribbean: the producer decides on the future of the saga, and it is not unanimous

Pirates of the Caribbean: Disney’s multi-billion dollar saga

Launched in 2003, the saga Pirates of the Caribbean it quickly established itself as an iconic Disney film franchise. Inspired by the Disneyland attraction of the same name that opened in 1967, the saga follows the dangerous adventures of Captain Jack Sparrowplayed by Johnny Depp, five times, navigating between maritime myths and pirate legends.

Over the course of the five films released between 2003 and 2017, the universe has expanded to include a rich gallery of characters, both allies and adversaries of Sparrow. Each of the plots intertwines the personal quest of its characters with supernatural and mythological elements, from the curse of the Black Pearl to the search for the Fountain of Youthincluding the face to face with Davy Jones and the ghost pirate Salazar in the last work.

With five films, the franchise has grossed more than $4.5 billion at the global box office, making it one of the highest-grossing film franchises of all time.

Jerry Bruckheimer says more about what’s ahead

If the saga surrounding Jack Sparrow really ended in 2017 with Salazar’s Revenge, Disney doesn’t intend to let this goose that lays the golden eggs slip away. But until now the future of the franchise was still unclear.

But in a recent interview with Comicbook.com, iconic producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed the outlines of what awaits fans. As you might imagine, he made no allusion to Johnny Depp’s returnwhich seems completely distanced from Disney, and reveals that the next Pirates of the Caribbean film will be a total reboot, and not a sequel with a completely new cast.

A film starring Margot Robbie had been mentioned in 2022, as well as another with young actors, but the producer didn’t mention either one in particular.

This announcement by Bruckheimer obviously did not please Jack Sparrow fans, who cannot imagine a film Pirates of the Caribbean without this character, and obviously without Johnny Depp. But they will have to decide, because the return of the latter is not in Disney’s plans.
