“A minute of movies a day”: James Cameron gives news of Avatar 3

Avatar 3: James Cameron gives news

James Cameron is a busy man. In addition to actively working on the numerous sequels toAvatars, is currently in Paris for the inauguration of the exhibition-event dedicated to his works at the Cinémathèque française. After that he will return to New Zealand to resume post-production on the third part dedicated to the Na’vi.

His visit to the French capital was an opportunity for our colleagues at Le Parisien to question him on the development of the film that will follow The Way of Water. And the good news is that the feature film is still eagerly awaited in December 2025after an initial one-year postponement.

The filming with the actors is finished, I’m currently shooting the virtual part: alone in a room, I film with a virtual camera, reusing the “performance capture” of the actors, I create sequences using the angles I want and creating the settings, the machines , the creatures. We get one minute of film a day. And we go up in parallel…

said James Cameron, who also spoke about the controversial ending of Titanic.

A highly anticipated sequel

More than a decade after the release of the first Avatars, the sequel was a huge success at the worldwide box office with nearly two and a half billion in revenue. Suffice it to say that the third part is eagerly awaited by millions of viewers around the world.

The plot should take place partly in the same setting as The Way of Water, i.e. on the rocks of Pandora, where Jake, Neytiri and their family found refuge after abandoning the forest. But this third film will also be an opportunity to explore other unknown places of Pandoraand meet new Na’vi.

The plot will therefore take us to the volcanoes of the blue planet, in the company of the ash people, who should not be as welcoming as those of the coral reefs. In the second part of the film there is a time jump, and it is Lo’ak, Jake and Neytiri’s eldest son, who becomes the main protagonist of the story. He was their second son, but after Neteyam’s tragic death in the second film, he is now the eldest. In The Way of Waterhe has formed a special relationship with Payakan, a gigantic marine Tulkun with great intelligence.
