Season 1 of Parasite: the grey a success, second season soon ?
Netflix launched the series on April 5, 2024 Parasite: the grey. A program that will inevitably have attracted manga enthusiasts since it is a derivative of Parasite (1988-1994) by Hitoshi Iwaaki, from which an anime was born (also available on the streaming platform). The show, however, is not a simple transposition of the story into live action, but an original story that takes place in the same universe as the original work. It is therefore in South Korea that the extraterrestrial larvae arrive take over the human body. But one of these larvae fails to fuse completely Jeong Su-in (Jeon So-nee)who thus becomes a mutant targeted both by the parasites and by the Gray unit that follows them.

Created by Yeon Sang-ho, Parasite: the grey convinced subscribers of the streaming service. The series was immediately placed top of the top 10 current series on Netflix. A new success for a Korean series, but also for a new manga adaptation on the after platform A piece AND Yu Yu Hakusho. Enough to motivate manufacturers to get started a season 2? We will have to wait a little longer before confirming. Because if the show is doing well in France right now, it remains to be seen whether it will do well in enough other countries as well.
The hero of the manga will be important in the sequel
However, given the end of season 1 From Parasite: the grey, the possibility of seeing new episodes is excellent. And a recent statement from Yeon Sang-ho on this topic should give hope to the public that he would ask for more. During an interview (reported by DevSpeech), the director of Last train to Busan (2016) provided details on the final scene of the first season for the first time Shin’ichi Izumi introducing himself to Officer Jung-kyung (Lee Jung-hyun). Fans of the manga know that this is the hero of the original work, who is just a teenager. Which thus gives a small idea of the temporality of the universe.
The ending, which has all the characteristics of a post-credits scene, is set 8 years after the main story. Shin’ichi Izumi, played by Masaki Suda in Parasyte: The Grey, was in his early twenties at the time.

The author went on to clarify that he couldn’t decide on the development of the second season on his own, but that he had to wait for the green light from Netflix. However, he would have already discussed with Izumi’s interpreter about a possible sequel, and now he would have everything a detailed plan for the future which he would show to actress Lee Jung-hyun.
When we talked to Masaki Suda at the time, we had some ideas for the sequel. I told him this when his character met Jung-kyung. And to his interpreter, Lee Jung-hyun, I showed the script containing the entire plan for the second season.
Yeon Sang-ho wouldn’t say anything else about what might follow Parasite: the grey. But he continued to state that Shin’ichi Izumi’s appearance at the end was not just a simple wink, but a way to introduce him and make him a central character of the second season. It remains to be hoped that Netflix will follow the author for the sequel.
