Don’t do this, don’t do that: a much-loved French series
Don’t do it, don’t do it is a French television series broadcast on France 2 from 2007 to 2017. Created by Anne Giafferi and Thierry Bizot, the series follows the adventures of two neighboring families in the town of Sèvres, the Bouleys and the Lepics, whose lifestyles and upbringing they are radically different.
The Bouleys, starring Isabelle Gélinas and Bruno Salomone, take a modern, permissive approach to education. They support freedom of expression, autonomy and less rigid education. Their lifestyle is often at odds with traditional conventions, creating comical and often chaotic situations.
The Lepicians, played by Valérie Bonneton and Guillaume de Tonquédec, represent the conservative and traditional family. Their approach to education is rigorous and structured, with an emphasis on values and rules. They aspire to maintain a familial and social order that contrasts sharply with the freedom advocated by the Bouleys.
Over the course of its nine seasons, Don’t do it, don’t do it has become a staple of French television, attracting several million viewers with each episode.
They come back again!
In 2020, the Bouley and Lepic families met for a special episode that took place during the end-of-year holidays, while the two families spent Christmas together. A reunion that pleased the fans of the series (the episode was watched by more than five million people), who were eagerly awaiting news on the continuation of their adventures. And good news, as a new two-part special episode is currently in the works in Île-de-France!
In this double episode called We will walk on the moon, the children of the Lepics and the Bouleys, decide to enroll their parents in a major competition organized by the European Space Agency to “give them back momentum and help them give a new meaning to their lives”. Against all odds, and after being trained to go to the Moon, Fabienne, Renaud, Denis and Valérie are chosen.
These two new 52-minute episodes were written by Anne Giafferi and directed by Alexandre Castagnetti. The transmission is expected to take place in 2025.
