This miniseries is loosely inspired by true events, in particular the massacre of the Order of the Solar Temple in 1995. Created by Fanny Robert and Maxime Berthemy, the series consists of six episodes and is set in the fictional city of Levionna, located in the Alps. In 1994, a collective suicide orchestrated by a sect called Secte des Écrins shook the small community of Levionna. Thirty years later, while the mysteries surrounding this tragedy are still unsolved, a new disappearance brings the ancient demons back to life.
The series follows several main characters: Ida Heilman (Noémie Schmidt), a computer investigator determined to find her missing father; Jaro Gatsi (Hatik), a young delinquent looking for redemption; and Giovanna DeLuca (Camille Lou), a police officer grappling with the enigmas of the past. Together, they attempt to unravel the truth about the events that threw Levionna into chaos.
A second season in preparation
WhileAnthracite was built as a miniseries, and the story of the Ecrins Sect was resolved in the last episode, with the truth about Ida’s origins, it would seem that the enormous success of the series led Netflix to consider a season 2.
In an interview given to our colleagues at Paris Match, Thomas Anargyros, the head of Mediawan Studio, co-producer of the series, stated, during the conversation, that a season 2 ofAnthracite “It was expected.” At the moment there is no other information on the content of these new episodes, although it is a safe bet that the trio from the first season will meet again to solve a new investigation.
