Escape 3: one work too many?
Escape 3 it is the third part of the saga Leak debuted in 2013. Directed by John Herzfeld and released in 2019, this action film stars Sylvester Stallone, Dave Bautista and 50 Cent. In this third film, Ray Breslin, played by Stallone, must infiltrate an abandoned prison in Latvia to save daughter of a Hong Kong billionairekidnapped by Lester Clark Jr., son of his former colleague and traitor from the first film.
In this film, Breslin is supported by his friend Trent DeRosa (Bautista) and Shen Lo (Jin Zhang), the kidnapped girl’s former bodyguard. The film stands out by inverting the formula of the previous parts, in which Breslin escaped from ultra-secure prisons. This time he will have to enter a prison for a very complex extraction.
A box office failure
Escape 3 it was a resounding failure at the box office. Unlike the first film of the saga, which had some success thanks to the joint presence of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, this third part failed to attract the public. The film only grossed $1.8 million at the worldwide box office, a catastrophic figure, and below the second work, which already had not had much success. These two sequels were not released in French cinemas and were only entitled to a direct-to-video release.
The film was also criticized for its low production quality and predictable plot. Although the action scenes are better done than in the second part, Escape 3 failed to captivate audiences, and Stallone’s performance was considered boring and uninspired.
