The Acolyte : the promises of the next series Star Wars

In a few days Disney+ will offer The Acolytea new series from the universe of Star Wars. A show that will differ greatly from previous productions, The Mandalorian, The Boba Fett book, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor OR Ahsoka, since these occurred in periods already presented in the films. For The Acolyteit’s a leap of 100 years ago that awaits the public. More specifically, during the High Republic era, a time when peace reigns and the Jedi have little reason to worry. However, a new enemy will appear and several Jedi will die. An investigation must then be carried out, in particular by Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae), who will thus discover the existence of a Sith.

A wind of innovation should therefore blow The Acolyte. Not necessarily in form, but through this story that distances us from all the events known to date. This will not prevent the appearance of emblematic characters from the prelogy in the series. But apart from a few exceptions, we will therefore be able to discover new characters from June 4th on Disney+.

As the broadcast date approaches, teams a The Acolyte met with journalists to talk about the show. On this occasion we were able to chat with part of the cast (including Amandla Stenberg, at the forefront of the Star Wars series). Our interview will be to be discovered soon. THE New York Times (through Variety) has already shared an article after discussions with Leslye Headland, the director of the show. The latter intends to bring his vision to the Star Wars universe (to which the series is compared Kill Bill AND Snow Queen) and knows it will be necessary deal with the virulence of certain fans.

“I don’t consider them fans”

As the article explains, part of the community Star Wars has continued to react to some Disney choices since the studio purchased the license from George Lucas. Generally targeted criticism minority representatives. The Acolyte was not spared since as soon as the trailer was put online, we could see comments from trolls renaming the series The Wokelite.

Leslye Headland then reacted to these types of remarks and wanted to warn the ones who would come just to make hateful comments.

As a fan, I know how frustrating some Star Wars stories have been in the past. I felt it myself. I maintain my empathy for Star Wars fans. But I want to be clear. I do not consider anyone who engages in bigotry, racism, or hate speech to be a fan.

It’s hard to go against Leslye Headland’s words. Because it’s one thing to not like movies or series Star Wars for artistic choices or for the twist of a story. It’s another to criticize actors or actresses for anything other than their acting, especially after the universe Star Wars has shown strong female characters or people of color more than once, without it bothering anyone in the past. We think in particular of Mace Windu, Leia, Padmé and Lando Calrissian. In case of The Acolyte, African-American actress Amandla Stenberg (The vortex) and South Korean star Lee Jung-jae (Squid game) are therefore at the forefront of the series. AND, Spoiler alertthey quite convinced us.

The Acolyte will be available June 4 on Disney+.
