Die hard 5 : The movie that really shouldn’t be made
Since the end of the 80s, dissociation has become impossible Bruce Willis of his cult figure John McClane. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger with Terminator or Sylester Stalone with Rocky and Rambo. In the case of Bruce Willis, it was 1988, with Crystal trapthat the public discovered this policeman on vacation forced to intervene when the employees of the Nakatomi Square where he is they are suddenly taken hostage. Everything in John McTiernan’s film has become a cult. And thanks to its success ($140 million at the worldwide box office for a budget of $28 million), a sequel, 58 minutes of life (1990), thus starting the saga Die Hard (VO title).
A second work much less appreciated by the public, marked by director Renny Harlin’s difficulties in managing Bruce Willis. Fortunately, John McTiernan then returned with A day in hell (1995), starring Jeremy Irons and Samuel L. Jackson. A third Die Hard movie that could have conclude the saga and leave it to the heights. Not to mention Hollywood’s ability to launder, which never stops wanting to take advantage of licenses to earn a little more.
So, twelve years later A day in hell, Die Hard 4: Return to Hell (2007) allowed Bruce Willis to reprise his legendary role for a new, ultimately quite convincing adventure. Only, six years later, here we go again, this time with a film to forget: Die Hard 5: A Beautiful Day to Die (2013).
An action film that doesn’t have Die Hard that name is Bruce Willis
For this film, director John Moore overturned the rules of the saga sending John McClane to Russia! The ex-cop plans to free his son Jack (Jai Courtney), who is in prison. Then he discovers that the boy is actually a CIA agent who must recover evidence on the future Russian Defense Minister, who threatens world peace. Father and son will therefore undertake this mission together. Only with this summary do we understand it Die hard 5 it feels more like a simple, rehashed action movie with bad Russians that the Americans have to stop. A film that ultimately only has Die Hard in its name and character.

The public and the press were not wrong. Even if the movie is managed to be profitable, with over $300 million raised worldwide, the returns have been catastrophic. Only with 15% positive reviews ON Rotten tomatoes from the press, Die Hard 5 got the worst score of the saga, by far. And the same goes for viewers, with 40% positive opinions.
The data is also distressing Metacritic with 28% favorable opinions from critics and a rating of 4.4/10 from the public. Finally, in France, the scores displayed by AlloCiné they are no longer glorious with 1.7/5 for the press and 2.1/5 for the spectators. Cinema files then I noticed it upon release Die Hard 5 was forgotten”the basics and the humor“ of the franchise, before adding: “I’m not sure the fans like itAnd this was confirmed. At least, after this fifth film, we were spared (for the moment) a new sequel.
