Just arrived on Netflix, this French film is number 1 but very divisive

Sous la Seine is already number 1 on Netflix

After intense promotion by Netflix, which bet big on its first shark film made in France, Under the Seine arrived on the platform this Wednesday June 5th.

Directed by Xavier Gens and brought forward by Bérénice Bejo and Nassim Lyes, the feature film is set in Paris, where a shark wreaks havoc a few days before a triathlon race that will take place on the Seine and which could end in bloodshed. Play Bérénice Bejo a shark specialistwho has already dealt with the beast, and Nassim Lyes plays a gendarme of the river brigade, determined to capture the animal before it causes too many victims.

But this little world isn’t helped by the mayor of Paris (played by Anne Marivin), who doesn’t want to risk her reputation by canceling the sporting event at the last moment. This explosive cocktail will obviously lead to chaos and big bites.

In just 24 hours, Under the Seine achieved first place in the Top 10 of Netflix France. It thus dethrones the thriller The colors of evilwhich had already been in the lead for several days.

Very mixed opinions on the film

From the classic Jaws by Steven Spielberg, shark films are always very popular with audiences. Many viewers were therefore curious to discover Sous la Seine, with its incredible tone, but a promise of discovering a new French genre film. And the first opinions on the feature film are very divided, as we can see by browsing the social network we found the script and acting very poor, and the ending of the film totally absurd.
