This French thriller released in 2002 can be watched for free

You will find there in particular the French thriller A private matterreleased in 2002, and directed by Guillaume Nicloux, with Marion Cotillard, Thierry Lhermitte and Samuel Le Bihan.

The film’s story begins six months after the mysterious disappearance of Rachel Siprien. At the request of her mother, private detective François Manéri (Thierry Lhermitte) agrees to take charge of the investigation. François is a man of a thousand facets, confronted with his complicated private lifeincluding an ex-wife and a lover.

As Francis becomes deeper into the case, he discovers that Rachel had a complex personality and many ambiguous relationships. Her investigation leads him to interact with a variety of people in Rachel’s entourage: her best friend Clarisse (Marion Cotillard), her ex-boyfriend, her stepfather and her neighbors, each holding her fragments of truth. Francis must navigate this dense and dark web, asking disturbing questions and filling the silences left by those who question.

His work as an investigator pushes him to follow leads that lead him to explore various environments, from ordinary daytime life to darker aspects of Rachel’s nightlife. At the same time, François develops a personal relationship with Clarisse, further complicating his mission.

A film that went unnoticed upon its release

Despite the attractive cast and gripping plot, A private matter it didn’t appeal to audiences when it hit theaters in May 2002. With a budget of around 4 million euros, attracted only 450,000 viewers in theaters after moving to the Cognac Crime Film Festival in April of that year. He won the Lucien-Barrière Foundation prize.

This film is the first part of a trilogy continued with thrillers This woman (2003) e The button (2007).
