Published in 2011, Real steel is a science fiction film directed by Shawn Levy. Adapted from a short story by Richard Matheson entitled “Steel”, the story is set in 2020, in a world where human boxing has been supplanted by robot fighting. Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) is a former boxer turned robot fight promoter, but his career is in decline.

In debt and out of options, he finds himself caring for his son Max (Dakota Goyo), a boy he barely knows. Together, they discover an old abandoned combat robot called Atom and decide to do it repair. Against all odds, Atom begins winning fights and climbing the ranks. Charlie is offered a new life.

Almost fifteen years after its release, Real steel is living a second life on Netflix worldwide. In France the film is currently in sixth place in the Top 10. Furthermore, as already mentioned Screen triggering, Shawn Levy’s film ranked eighth among the most watched films in the world for the week of June 3, with nearly seven million hours viewed. By November 2023, the feature film had also established itself in the Netflix Top 10 in the United States.
