To crawl : Kaya Scodelario in front of the alligators
Published in 2019, To crawl marked the return ofAlexander Aja in French cinemas, five years later Horn (2014) – his previous film, The Ninth Life of Louis Drax (2016) released directly on VOD. The director convinced with “his crocodile film”. A quality B-series supported by Kaya Scodelario. In it, the actress plays Haley, who goes to her hometown without paying attention to the evacuation orders following the bad weather. The young girl wants to find her father and manages to find him, injured, in the basement of his house. However, at the same time, the floods are advancing more and more and the rising waters have brought alligators there…
If the proposal is simple, Alexandre Aja’s proposal remains effective. The director creates good tension everywhere To crawlwith the right amount of emotion between father and daughter. With this film, the director explained to us in an interview that he wanted to “return to pure horror”. Which is quite successful.
Made on a “small” budget of around $17 million, Crawl was very profitable as it grossed a lot $91 million in revenue worldwide. A success that opened the doors to a sequel. However, since 2021, the director has not provided any news about this project.
What’s new on the sequel?
So it’s been five years since the release of To crawl that the sequel is mentioned again, this time by The Hollywood Journalist. American media announce that Paramount Pictures studio is active in the development of Scan 2 and that Filming could begin this fall in Europe. Alexandre Aja will return to direct, as will Sam Raimi as producer. On the screenplay side, Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen have been replaced by Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan (Paranormal Activity 5).

There is also expected to be a change in casting with new faces to take the film forward. The location where the events will take place is also set to change as this time there is New York City that the heroes will have to face dangers, necessarily “more urban”. We are obviously curious to see how alligators will enter the equation.
Scan 2 doesn’t have a release date yet. But until then you can (re)watch the first one on the Paramount+ platform.
