In addition to the new characters, the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Poweroriginal series of Prime Videofeatured a significant change with the interpreter of Adarwhich changed actors between one season and another.

In the first, the character was played by Joseph Mawle (The Curse of the Forest, The Passion), while in the second the interpreter is Sam Hazeldine (Abandoned Mine, War under the Earth). After all, why did this change happen in the cast of the production, created by Patrick McKay and John D. Payne?

In a publication made in Twittercurrently called X, Mawle explained how he left the series with the intention of “exploring new characters and worlds” in his career. He also participated in productions such as 1923 and Mary & George.

“I loved exploring Middle-earth and delving into the mythology of Tolkien. I am so honored that the character was so beloved,” he wrote. “He cared deeply about telling his own story. Although, as an actor, it remains my desire and job description to explore new characters and worlds.”

Already in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sam Hazeldine talked about taking on a role previously played by another actor: “For me, the appeal was that he’s a dark character, but he doesn’t see himself as a villain.”

“He’s just trying to protect his children, the Uruk. So he’s doing what he thinks he must do to save them from genocide, whether it’s from Sauronwho sees them as cannon fodder, or elves,” the actor continued in the conversation.
