The Creature of Kyŏngsŏng : a fantasy series during the Second World War
At the end of 2023 Netflix released a new Korean series online, The Creature of Kyŏngsŏng. Created by Kang Eun-kyung, the show is set during World War II, under the Japanese occupation of South Korea. While Japan suffers heavy losses, a secret unit conducts terrible experiments on the population in order to give birth to a creature that could change the course of the war. It is at Kyŏngsŏng Hospital that these experiments are conducted and that will be discovered by Yoon Chae-ok, in search of his mother, and Jang Tae-sang, in charge of the search for the lover of an army officer. But above all, they will find there a terrible creature from which could emerge resident Evil.
At the end of the first seasonwe found out that this creature is actually Chae-ok’s mother, transformed by her experiences in the army. Chae-ok then tried to communicate with her so that she would stop destroying everything in her path. In the final act, the young woman even interposed herself between the creature and Tae-sang, admitting in a final breath that he is the man she loves. Chae-ok’s Death It was then a real shock, both for his mother (now conscious again) and for Tae-sang – and even more so for the audience. However, this drama was short-lived as a final scene showed the creature transmitting a part of itself to Chae-ok. Infecting him, it brought her back to life…

Lots of twists and turns for the second season
Great success of the platform, The Creature of Kyŏngsŏng will continue with a season 2anticipated in the final moments of the final episode. We discovered a man named Ho-jae, very similar to Tae-sang, who was living well after the war. It’s really going to be a good time, as we can see the first trailer (in one of the articles) of the next chapter. It is this time, in 2024, in Seoul, that the plot will unfold. But, surprisingly, Chae-ok will be there, played again by Han So-hee, as if she had not aged after all these years. We imagine that the infection has preserved her.
Furthermore, Chae-ok is fully conscious and has superhuman strength in these images. Will she also have the ability to transform? The trailer is still not very clear on this… Just as it remains a mystery the presence of Park Seo-jun to play this man, Ho-jae, who does not recognize Chae-ok. We finally understand that a new danger is lurking and that they will have to join forces once again to save the world.
We have many questions after this first trailer. And we hope to have all the answers on September 27, the release date of the second season of The Creature of Kyŏngsŏng on Korean Netflix. Netflix France has not yet announced a release date, but has announced the series’ return for 2024.
