A very nice B-series in which Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper try to survive the elements and the alligators that take advantage of the rising waters to go to their home. The presentation is simple, but effective. And it allows the French director to make a survival tense and well-paced. Produced with just 17 million dollars, the film grossed 91 million dollars at the global box office. A success that paved the way for a sequel, already hinted at in 2021, then relaunched in recent weeks.

We have in fact learned from The Hollywood Journalist that filming would begin this fall in Europe. However, according to Alexandre Aja, the production would not be not yet fully in force. Met during the promotion of his next film Homeland (in theaters from September 25), the director told us that the idea of ​​a Scan 2 had been discussed since the first work was released, considering different scenarios. But even if he was now ready to move forward with this sequel, Alexandre Aja would still be present pending confirmation from Paramount studio. Which makes it less likely to shoot in the fall. Especially since the director could potentially tackle other projects first.

We never stopped working on Crawl. Actually, when the movie came out, we immediately talked about possible sequels, we developed different scenarios. Now we are really ready to do another one. In any case, I really want to. Also, it is an American studio, so we will see if they really left. In any case, we are not fully prepared yet. I have other projects too. So I don’t know which ones will be done first.

Alligators in New York?

Another American media element to take with a pinch of salt is the location of the plot of this Scan 2. It has been announced that the film will be set in New York. In this regard, Alexandre Aja stated that there was “still several possibilities“, without giving further details. Another city could therefore be the alligators’ playground in this sequel. The director obviously has not made his final decision.
