It’s been three years this month since San Diego Comic-Con 2019, when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige wrapped up his “Incoming Mutants” panel. And now, they are finally here, and there are a few more to come from the source.
What’s interesting about Kamala’s mutant status in the MCU is that it’s another difference from her comic book counterpart, which is an Inhuman with polymorphic powers rather than the energy-heavy constructs seen in the show. When Kamala Khan first met the comics in 2013, Marvel was pushing the Inhumans to make them an X-Men-level property. It was an attempt at synergy. If Disney didn’t get the rights to the X-Men, the comics would put many of these characters on the back burner and recast the Inhumans as a small family of superpowered beings, but an entire race born on Earth.
Conceptually, the Inhumans weren’t all that different from the X-Men. Instead of the X gene, the new Inhumans were descendants of creatures whose genetic code had been altered by the Kree in an attempt to create a warrior race. Her powers are caused by the Terrigen Mists and not during adolescence. So when Marvel Comics dropped the Terrigen bomb on the universe during the event QuiteThousands of new super beings appeared, including Kamala Khan.
At the same time, Marvel TV was showing Inhumans protective agentsand fortunately short not human series on ABC. While both series existed outside of Marvel Studios and Feige, Inhumans seemed like a suitable replacement for Mutants. Also, you can’t beat the X-Men, their history, or them being an allegory. Marvel’s Inhumans initiative was short-lived, ending in 2018 after 20 were acquired by Disney.I Century Fox and gained access to the X-Men. In the current scenario of Marvel Comics, mutants are still raging while most Inhumans are dead or missing.
So what does this mean for Kamala in the MCU? Will it be the X-Man? It’s still not entirely clear, though friends of his are more likely to join Wolverine now that he’s been introduced. However, this makes Kamala Khan central to much of Marvel’s mythology. It’s safe to say he’s now at the center of the MCU’s future.
In short, he is a descendant of the ClanDestines, a race of beings from another dimension that the natives mistook for the descendants of the Djinn when they arrived. He discovered his power through a mysterious bracelet believed to be of Kria origin (we see a blue alien appear in a flashback when we meet the ClanDestines and a post-credits exchange with Carol Danvers. [Brie Larson] The ending also offers related techniques.)
But while her grandmother (Samina Ahmed), mother (Zenobia Shroff) and brother (Saagar Shaikh) are also descended from underground, only Kamala wields power with the bracelet. This is the result of her mutation that allows her to harness the energy of the Noor Dimension, much like Gambit or Bishop can harness and manipulate kinetic energy in the comics. But this particular use of other-dimensional energy that Kamala displays is what the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) calls magic. Doctor Strange And magic is what Kamala’s father Yousef (Mohan Kapoor) calls her at the end.
So, Kamala Khan is a mutant descendant of ClanDestine whose interaction with possible Kree technology allows her to perform what mages consider magic. He’s more complicated than Kamala because he’s just Inhuman, which might annoy some fans. However, this complication fits the character and the reason he was created. He’s a fan who dreamed of gaining superhero powers, and when he gets them, it’s not just the result of one thing, but a confluence of circumstances that can be seen throughout Marvel’s personal and cosmic multiverse history.
The heroine can be described by many different labels and yet she defies all expectations. He is the embodiment of the MCU in the same way that his comic book incarnation was the embodiment of comic book powers and the duty creators Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko felt to give us characters that we can see ourselves in. For audiences to see this further exploration of various mythologies, it seems certain that Kamala Khan, as the focus of all these powers, ancient, genetic and extradimensional, can only be defined as one thing above all else: the Wonder.
