Director Frank Darabont explained his reasons for directing chapters in the fifth season of Stranger Things: ‘It has a lot of heart’
Director of films such as A Dream of Freedom (1994), Waiting for a Miracle (1999) and The Fog (2007), Frank Darabont will return from retirement to film two episodes of the fifth and final season of Stranger Thingsone of the most popular series in the Netflix.
The news was confirmed in a conversation with The Daily Beastin which the filmmaker revealed the work on the production, created by the brothers Matt and Ross Duffer. Until now, Netflix did not disclose which chapters will be led by Darabontbut Maya Hawkeinterpreter of Robin Buckleydiscussed how the show’s fifth year is “basically eight films” and “the episodes are very long.”
“What really brought me out of retirement was that my wife and I really loved this show,” said the director. “Our content is now full of horrible people doing horrible things for greedy reasons, but Stranger Things has a lot of heart. That positivity is something I really responded to.”
However, this career return in Stranger Things does not mean that Frank Darabont will direct other projects: “Who knows? I didn’t miss the industry, but I did miss being on set with creative people… it could very well be one and done, but we still have time.”
