Scary movie 6 is in preparation
It’s hard to watch today Cry OR Remember…last summer without thinking about it Scary movie which parodied them in a notable way. Having fun with codes slasher and making fun of a whole host of horrible clichés, the film quickly became a cult classic. Its impressive success ($278 million in worldwide revenue on a $19 million budget) motivated the Wayans brothers (Keenen Ivory Wayans as director, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans as actors and co-writers) to parody other horror films (The exorcist, Rancor, Signs…).
Four films, then Scary movie emerged between 2000 and 2006 (without the Wayans brothers afterward Scary movie 2). Scary movie 5 had relaunched the saga in 2013, but without including the protagonists Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) and Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall). Despite its profitability, the feature film did not launch a new film series. But more than ten years later, Scary movie will return to the limelight with a sixth feature film. The announcement was made during CinemaCon in Las Vegas in April 2024. Several months later, Expiration gives us reassuring news about the project.
Filming in 2025 for the Wayans brothers
According to American media, the filming of Scary movie 6 will take place in 2025. The release date has not yet been specified, but the film will be released in cinemas thanks to Paramount, which is handling distribution. The good news is that the Wayans brothers have reunited to write and produce the film. Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Wayans shared a Expiration (and through Instagram) their enthusiasm in collaborating together again:
We are thrilled to be a part of the new scary movie and to work together again. It’s a franchise we created more than 20 years ago.
On the part of Miramax, which is overseeing the project, it is estimated to be “the perfect time to bring the saga back to the big screen“. We imagine that for ten years, with the numerous productions that have left their mark on viewers, there will be a lot to do in terms of parody. We still don’t know which films will be ridiculed. Now we have to hope that Anna Faris and Regina Hall will also be there …
