A matter of details: an old-fashioned thriller

Released directly to VOD in 2021, A question of details (The little things) immerses viewers in the twists and turns of a twisting criminal investigation. The story follows Joe “Deke” Deacon (Denzel Washington), a former Los Angeles sheriff’s deputy haunted by his past. Returning to his old stomping grounds on a seemingly harmless mission, he finds himself embroiled in an investigation into an elusive serial killer. Deke teams up with Detective Jim Baxter (Rami Malek), but their methods quickly clash.

While the clues lead to Albert Sparma (Jared Leto), a man with disturbing behaviors, the investigations get bogged down in a spiral of doubts and… morally ambiguous decisions. As tension builds, the film explores not only the gray areas of its characters, but also the blurred lines between justice and obsession.

If you like psychological thrillers that focus on the psychology of the characters as much as the plot, A question of details it’s made for you. This film recalls the great hours of the genre, halfway between Seven AND Zodiac.

A trip overshadowed by the pandemic

Upon its release in January 2021, A question of details did not have the desired success. The film suffered from the Covid-19 pandemic, which disrupted the film industry. Released simultaneously in US theaters and on HBO Maxthe thriller was released in a limited number of theaters. In France it was never released in theaters and was offered directly on VOD and DVD.

With a budget of around $30 million, the film only grossed $30 million at the worldwide box office. Luckily, its arrival on Netflix in December 2022 gave it a head start second life. In a short time, A question of details entered the top 10 of the most viewed new releases on the platform.

Now you only have a few days to catch up. The film will be released on the French platform on December 1st.
